Sutherland announced her retirement on her website, saying she wants to focus on her new husband and slow down and enjoy her life.

She won 931 races from 7,350 career mounts and had purse earnings of more than $47 million, according to Equibase.

Sutherland became the first female rider to win the Santa Anita Handicap, guiding Game On Dude to a nose victory last year. But she lost the mount on Game On Dude after they were beaten in the Pacific Classic in August at Del Mar and her business had slowed recently.

Sorry to see you go. I bet almost all your horses, because of you. I will never bet on a Bob Baffert’s horse for what he did to you. God Bless My Friend and make a million. Clark

As a follower from Woodbine, I can say the world of racing will miss you.
We won’t have another jockey to bet on.
We always knew that any hose you rode was “live”

Never before has a jockey been so flattered than you were in the Classic. There is no way you would have done worse than Bejarano and everyone thinks you should have been taken off the Dude. What a way to retire. We at Sam Houston Racepark love you girl!

It was a sad day when I heard that you were retiring from being a jockey. I had the chance and pleasure in seeing you in action both at Santa Anita & Betfair Hollywood Park. You had such a knack of getting horses to run for you and watching you ride was poetry in motion!! Thank you for taking the time to autographing my poster and even taking a picture with me!! You are such a class act! Continued success Chantal and I know you will be following your dreams!!

    Chantal:

Keep your options open. You can still probably ride with the best jockey’s in the sport of horse racing. And as an actress in a movie career.

    Chantal:

Would you make a comeback, as a Jockey, if they gave you back Game On Dude, to ride in 2013?
Also gave you some Derby horses that had a chance in the triple crown races. You know you have the ability.

Chantal, I came across your website today when I was looking for the latest information on you. I hadn’t seen you ride in awhile and wondered what had happened to you. Honestly, I thought you might have gotten married and had a baby! Part of that deduction was true, at least. I always bet on you and pulled for you during your racing years, but I am thrilled that you found a wonderful husband. Good luck to you, and may all your dreams come true!
