Game On Dude defeated Uh Oh Bango by 5-1/4 lengths to win the $200,000 San Antonio Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita, giving jockey Chantal Sutherland a victory over ex-fiance Mike Smith that she was denied in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
In November at Churchill Downs, Smith and Drosselmeyer overtook front-running Sutherland and Game On Dude in the closing furlongs to win the $5 million Classic. Smith was aboard Uh Oh Bango this time.
Racing for the first time since that defeat, Game On Dude covered 1-1/8 miles in 1 minute, 46.88 seconds and paid $2.60 as the 3-10 favorite.
Victory Pete was third, 12-1/4 lengths out of second.
Retired Los Angeles Dodgers manager Joe Torre, who co-owns Game On Dude, was on hand to see the horse race in person for the first time.
