Chantal Sutherland To Make Woodbine Return On Friday

Jockey Chantal Sutherland will return to action at Woodbine on Friday (June 9, 2013) afternoon, nearly eight months after announcing her retirement from riding in October 2012.

Sutherland has been named on two mounts during Friday’s nine-race card. She’s listed to ride Solidus for trainer John MacKenzie in her first race back in the fourth, a $20,000 maiden claiming event over seven furlongs on Polytrack, and is also named on As If I Care in the fifth race, an Ontario-sired maiden special weight event over one mile on turf, for trainer Ashlee Brnjas.

Back on May 23, Bill Tallon of the Daily Racing Form broke the news that Sutherland was planning a return to riding in time for the Del Mar meet in July, and she was pictured working horses at Woodbine as recently as May 26. The photo below is from assistant trainer Jeff Bowen’s Twitter feed.
